Bibby: I want to be first-team regular

After a promising breakthrough last season, Salford centre Jake Bibby is keen to establish himself as a permanent fixture in the starting 13 next year.

The 20-year old was part of the Red Devils Under 19s team in 2015 before being handed a professional contract.

“I would love to make a name for myself,” Bibby  said.

“I also want to cement myself in the centre or winger spot.”

One of the key bits of advice given to Bibby by his coach Ian Watson is to learn from the other players in a similar position.

“He said to speak to the lads in a similar position because they’ll help me out a lot,” he said.

“They have more experience so he told me to train with them a lot.”

Former New Zealand international Junior Sau is one of those players and Bibby admitted he was grateful to be able to ask for his advice every day.

“It’s the best because he’s been there and done it at international level,” he told Love Rugby League.

“He is good to have around because he always helps me out.”

During Bibby’s involvement last season, he experienced the Middle 8s and explained it is an unforgiving stage of the year.

“They are all must win games,” he said.

“You cannot be off the dot you always have to be on the point.”

The Red Devils came within two minutes of being relegated to the Championship during the Million Pound Game.

Despite the near miss, everyone at the club has been in high spirits, according to Bibby.

“Ever since we won the Million Pound Game morale has been high,” he said.

“It’s a good bunch of lads this year and we are a tight group.”
