Josh McGuire and Tom Amone learn fates at tribunal
Warrington’s Josh McGuire and Leigh’s Tom Amone have both learned their fates following their Grade F charges for unacceptable language.
Amone, 26, was found not guilty of his charge.
The newly-rebranded Leopards shared the following statement on social media: “Leigh’s Tom Amone, who was referred to the independent tribunal on a Grade F charge of using Unacceptable Language, was found not guilty.”
Meanwhile, McGuire, 32, has been found guilty of his charge and has been punished with a lengthy ban.
The Rugby Football League stated: “Warrington Wolves’ Josh McGuire has been found guilty of using Unacceptable Language (disability discrimination) towards an opponent during his side’s recent pre-season game against Leigh Leopards at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
“McGuire was dismissed during the match and referred to tribunal on a Grade F charge carrying a minimum six-match suspension. He is also fined £1,000 and required to undertake mandatory education.
“McGuire will face a seven match suspension.”
Warrington open the 2023 Super League campaign at home to Leeds on Thursday night. Leigh will host Salford on Friday, with both games live on Sky Sports.
McGuire’s hefty seven-match ban means he will have to wait until April to make his official Super League debut for his new side. The forward will miss fixtures against the Rhinos, Huddersfield, Salford, Hull KR, Leigh, Castleford and Hull.
The former NRL man only made the move to Wire during the off-season on a two-year deal.
Verdict: Another disappointing Sky Sports rugby league promo
