Wigan’s Joe Shorrocks makes Super League loan move
Wigan Warriors forward Joe Shorrocks has joined Super League rivals Leigh Leopards on an initial two-week loan deal.
The 23-year-old reunites with former Wigan boss Adrian Lam, who handed him his debut back in April 2019 against Wakefield.
Shorrocks has made 57 appearances for the Warriors, including 13 starts, scoring two tries.
He will be available for Leigh’s Super League fixtures against Hull KR and St Helens.
Joe Shorrocks joins Leigh on loan
Wigan head coach Matt Peet said: “This is an excellent opportunity for Joe and suits all parties. Following a quality pre-season, regular games in Super League will best prepare Joe to perform when he gets an opportunity with us.”
Speaking to LeopardsTV for the first time about the move, Shorrocks commented: “I spoke to my manager a few weeks ago. I know a few of the boys and I know Lammy (Adrian Lam), obviously I played under him at Wigan. I spoke to my manager and the ball got rolling pretty quickly.
“I’m excited to be here.
“I want to test myself. I’m not getting a lot of game time at Wigan, so coming here is a great opportunity for me to play more minutes and get more game time.”
Leigh are yet to win their first game of the 2023 campaign. They fell to a 20-10 home defeat to Salford in the opening round of the new season. Lam’s side then suffered a 14-6 loss to Catalans in Perpignan.
Leigh set to deliver another night of incredible entertainment
Derek Beaumont has confirmed more pre-match entertainment ahead of Leigh’s next home match against St Helens in Round Four on Friday, March 10.
Following the 40-minute performance from Scouting for Girls on their opening day, Leigh owner Beaumont has confirmed that T’Pau will be their next headline act to provide pre-match entertainment.
The English pop band, formed in Shrewsbury, had a string of Top 40 hits in the UK during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Notable songs include China in Your Hand, Heart and Soul and Valentine.
