McIlorum: Return date still not clear
Wigan hooker Michael Mcllorum admits he is unsure when he fit to play again in Super League.
Mcllorum made just three appearances before suffering a terrible ankle injury in February which kept him out for the remainder of the season last year.
When asked about a specific date, he said it would be hard to pinpoint a specific game until the next stage of his recovery was complete.
“I am waiting for a date to have these plates out really,” Mcllorum said.
“As soon as I have them out it’s between eight and ten weeks.”
Mcllorum missed out on playing in last year’s Grand Final, which the hooker admitted was hard to take but he explained how good it was to see the happiness on some of the younger player’s faces when they won.
Wigan beat Warrington 12-6 at Old Trafford to secure their fourth Super League title after losing in three consecutive finals.
“It is pretty tough but it was great to see the lads who have never won anything win that final,” he said.
“I know what that feeling is like to win that first trophy and get that monkey off your back.”
This weekend Wigan play Leigh for Mcllorum’s testimonial and the hooker is under no illusions as to how tough the game will be.
The Centurions are back in Super League for the first time in over a decade after losing just once in the Middle 8s last season.
“A few of them have been here so we know what quality they’ve got and we’re expecting a tough game,” he said.
