Jonathan Thurston will retire from representative football at the end of 2017.

Thurston has confirmed that this year will be his last for Queensland and the Kangaroos, with the World Cup his swansong.

The North Queensland Cowboys star is expecting to completely retire at the end of the 2018 season.

“At this stage, it’ll be an extra year next year,” Thurston told Fox Sports.

The halfback turns 35 next year.

Thurston has won two NRL grand finals, two World Cups and numerous Origins in his career.
