Shorrocks: The bond between the lads is stronger than ever

Wigan halfback Jake Shorrocks says his team is working hard and not sitting on their laurels.

Wigan took out the 2016 Super League grand final, and the Warriors have big plans for 2017.

 “I think we’re making sure that we’re not just sitting on our laurels,” Shorrocks told Love Rugby League.

“We want all four trophies.”

Shorrocks is just one of a number of players that featured last season who has come through the club’s academy ranks and he admitted it helped knowing a lot of his teammates on a more intimate level.

The playmaker made 12 appearances last season and was rewarded for his contribution with a new three-year deal.

“The likes of Nick Gregson, Oliver Gildart and Joe Bretherton and me were all in the same age group,” he said.

“George, Lewis [Tierney] and Joe [Burgess] were all the year above.

“The fact that we all know each other’s games pretty well helps us a team.”

The 21-year old is confident about getting more opportunities this season because Shaun Wane is keen on promoting the future.

“He is not afraid to give young players chances,” he said.

“You’ve got to look at George [Williams] and Oliver Gildart who have starting shirts.

“I think I need more experience at Super League and learn how to manage games.

“I just need to take my chance as much as I can when Shaun puts me in.”
