Meninga won’t pick Radradra for Kangaroos

Australian national team coach Mal Meninga will not select Semi Radradra for the Kangaroos this year.

The 24-year-old Fijian outside back, who was picked last year for Australia, was left out of the Kangaroos squad for the Four Nations, as he is currently having to answer charges in a domestic violence case.

He is also set to move to French rugby union outfit Toulon in 2018.

“No I won’t be (selecting Radradra),” Meninga told foxsports.com.au.

“If a player decides to go to another code, they’ll be in extreme doubt in my eyes.

“Semi is committed to another sport, and generally speaking we want to be developing and putting time into players that are staying in rugby league.”

Meninga insists he has no regrets about picking Radradra in the first place, despite the way things have transpired subsequently.

“There are no regrets there,” Meninga said.

“We picked the team at the time, and it’s very easy to make comments in hindsight.

“(Radradra’s charges) are still up in the air; obviously he’s going to rugby [union] so that has an impact on him being selected for Australia again.

“But we can’t predict what’s going to happen in the future and people that criticise that decision realistically aren’t being fair.

“I don’t think that’s fair to make that comment, ‘Do you regret picking him? That’s unfair.”
