Leigh forward heads to the Championship on loan
Leigh forward Jacob Jones has returned to his former club London Broncos in the Championship on a five-week loan deal.
The 24-year-old has made 15 appearances since joining the Leopards ahead of last season from London, although he has yet to play in 2023.
Jones came through the academy at the Broncos before making his first team debut for the club in 2021. He enjoyed time on loan at Midlands Hurricanes before breaking in to the Broncos first team
Broncos coach Mike Eccles said: “I’m delighted to bring Jacob back down to London for the next five weeks.
“Jonesy is a player I know very well and someone I regard extremely highly.
“I know he’ll give everything for the shirt and the group during his spell with us. He gives us great options in both the back-row and middle.
“On behalf of London Broncos, I’d like to thank the Leigh club and in particular Chris Chester for getting this loan deal done quickly and seamlessly. I’m sure it will be a mutually beneficial piece of business.”
A great opportunity for Jacob Jones
Jones is available to play for London in their trip to Newcastle Thunder on Saturday.
Leigh head of rugby Chris Chester said: “It’s a great opportunity for Jacob to get some quality game time.
“This will give Jacob the match time he needs so he’s in the best condition possible when called upon by Adrian Lam for our first team games. I know London are getting a quality addition to their squad too.”
Jones is the second Leigh player to head out on loan this week. Earlier this week, the Leopards loaned young forward Jacob Gannon out to Championship side Halifax on a one-month loan deal.
Gannon, 21, made the move to the Leigh Sports Village under Adrian Lam ahead of the 2023 campaign.
Halifax head coach Simon Grix said: “It’s no secret that we haven’t a huge squad, so we welcome Jacob in for a month.
“He is a smart player with some versatility so he ticks some boxes for us.
“He’s come through a strong system at Warrington and did well for the Bulls last year, so the Championship should hold no surprises for him.”
