Steve McNamara says he was not impressed with Catalans’ performance against Hull KR despite claiming their fifth successive win to remain unbeaten in Super League.

The Dragons maintained their 100% record with a 26-12 victory in Perpignan, with winger Tom Johnstone scoring his second hat-trick of the season.

He was joined by team-mates Tom Davies and Julian Bousquet on the scoresheet, having led 10-0 at the break.

Johnstone, 27, has now scored in four of five fixtures, with a total tally of eight tries to date.

Despite the victory that sees them second in the Super League table, McNamara was left unimpressed. The 51-year-old coach also highlighted his side’s poor discipline, with Tiaki Chan sent to the sin-bin in the dying stages for a shoulder charge.

Steve McNamara: Our preparations were good but we didn’t play good.

McNamara said: “I’m not happy with our performance tonight. We started the game without discipline and we finished in the same way.

“We made far too many errors. It was nice to get the win for the fans and sponsors but for me as a coach I’m not happy at all.

“Our preparations were good but we didn’t play good.

“We’ve won five from five so I should be happy but I’m not. We started the season in a disciplined way but tonight we were way off.

“It was a tough, hard physical game with huge contacts and full credit to Rovers they came here to win. I’m annoyed and frustrated and we cannot drop our standards to that level again.”
