Myler coy on Catalans future

Catalan halfback Richie Myler is not overly concerned his current deal runs out at the end of 2017.

Myler, 26, moved to the Dragons last year after five seasons with the Warrington Wolves. It has been rumoured that the Englishman is targeting a return home in 2018.

“My contract does run up at the end of this year but we’re still talking at the moment,” he told loverugbyleague.

“At the minute my focus is just on playing.”

Myler explained it was refreshing that two fellow countrymen Iain Thornley and Luke Burgess had joined the French club this year.

“When Jodie [Broughton] and I joined we were only the third and fourth English players to line up for Catalan,” he said.

“Now there’s been six of us so it’s nice to get some friendly faces.”

When asked about the potential new partnership in the halves for the Dragons, Myler was full of praise for Luke Walsh.

The former Saints, Penrith and Newcastle Knights man has signed a deal for the next 12 months.

“He looks a great player and his kicking game is second to none,” Myler said.

“That’ll help me and it will help the team a lot.

“Hopefully we can come up with some good combinations.”

Changing a new halfback partnership ahead of a new season can affect a team’s rhythm, but Myler insisted it was a necessary change after last season’s performance.

“I think we were ready for it,” he said.

“We needed a change after last year with the difficulties we had.”

One player who has been at the club for a number of years is Thomas Bosc. When he agreed a contract extension Myler was over the moon.

The 33-year old is the club’s record scorer, amassing 1,169 points across 210 Super League matches.

“He’s one of them players Tommy who can play in any position,” he said.

“He’s got all the skills and he very rarely doesn’t deliver.

“I’m sure he’ll be on board for a long time.”
