Henderson takes positives from Hull KR loss
London coach Andrew Henderson says there are many positives to be taken from his team’s defeat to Hull KR.
“I was disappointed that we didn’t quite nick the win in at the end, I thought we played some really good football,” he said.
“Some of our attacking play was really great, and we asked a lot of questions of Hull KR and we broke them down on a number of occasions
“The thing that let us down at the end of the day was we just weren’t quite as clinical as we needed to be.
“We bombed a few opportunities in the first half, a couple in the second half – on a different day if you take them, it may have meant a different outcome to the end of the game.
“There’s still some areas on try line defence where we need to be better.
“We conceded some soft tries in the first half – Hull KR didn’t really have to work for those tries, but in terms of what I asked of the players on Sunday – I asked them to compete hard and to keep moving, and bring that energy, intent and enthusiasm – I really felt we delivered for large parts of the game on that.
“I can’t fault the players’ efforts and attitudes in terms of competing hard for each other. Ultimately we just weren’t clinical enough with the ball at times.
“The reality was, on Sunday, we were in a couple of positions to win that game and we failed to do that, because we didn’t execute well enough with the ball at certain times. Some of our try line defence at times just wasn’t good enough.
“However, there were plenty of positives and encouraging signs from our performance. I said to the boys in the shed after; that game for me is not going to define our season.
“Was it an improvement on last week? Yes.
“Will we grow and get better as a team as the season goes on? Absolutely.
“Did we play some really good football and show a lot more intent defensively on Sunday? Absolutely. A lot of positives and encouragement can come from our performance.
“We’ve just got to now dust ourselves down and focus on Oldham – beating Oldham this weekend and delivering a good performance, which I’m sure we’re capable of doing.”
