“Too many dumb things” – Adrian Lam left disappointed following Salford defeat
Leigh head coach Adrian Lam has given an honest assessment on his side’s 22-20 defeat to Salford at the Leigh Sports Village during Super League Rivals Round.
The Leopards had taken the lead through Josh Charnley, crossing for his 1,002 Super League point, before Salford hit back with three straight tries in the first half through Ken Sio, Sam Stone and Brodie Croft for a 16-6 lead at the break.
Tom Briscoe scored the first of the second 40, before Tyler Dupree once again extended Salford’s lead to 22-10.
Charnley, who has previously been backed for an England recall by head coach Lam, later crossed for his second to give his side a chance, but Ben Reynolds’ try was too late for the hosts, falling to a 22-20 defeat at home.
Lam was left disappointed with his side’s performance, with Salford picking up their fourth win of the year.
Analysing the loss with Jenna Brooks on Sky Sports, Lam said: “We didn’t build pressure.
“We were just turning ball over at the other end and just not giving ourselves a chance.
“Just too often too many dumb things and you can’t win when you’re doing that.
“There’s lessons along the way, but I’m just getting tired of it.”
“I thought there was plenty of effort there” – Adrian Lam
Leigh travel to Super League strugglers Wakefield in Round Nine before hosting Leeds the following week, with an international break then set to take place as England take on France at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
The Leopards have claimed three wins from eight so far in their return to the top division.
“It’s about sticking together through these moments and making sure as a team we get smarter,” Lam continued.
“I thought there was plenty of effort there. But again, our execution has been really good at times and then at times it’s been really poor.
“I think there was a 15 minute block there in the first half where they had nine sets in a row. We just couldn’t manage that and blew out to that 16 points.
“There are good points during our games at the moment, but there’s certainly some flat points which we need to eliminate.”
