Leigh continued their strong start to life back in Super League as they comfortably beat winless Wakefield 32-0 at Belle Vue.

It has been a good start to the season for the newly-promoted Leopards, who have now won four from their first nine games of the season.

Less can be said for Wakefield though, who have lost all nine of their games in 2023 so far. Their loss to Leigh was the fifth time they’ve been nilled this season.

It took 25 minutes for the first try to be scored. A break from in-form winger Josh Charnley saw him assist the supporting Gareth O’Brien who scored.

Leigh got their second just a couple of minutes later thanks to half-back Ben Reynolds, who converted his own try.

Adrian Lam’s side were 10-0 up at the break thanks to their first half tries from O’Brien and ex-Wakefield man Reynolds.

The Leopards continued their rich vein of form in the second half, with Papua New Guinea international Lachlan Lam extending their lead. Reynolds’ conversion put his side 16-0 in front.

The game was put out of reach in the 54th minute. Charnley scored his 11th try of the season, extending his lead at the top of Super League’s try scoring charts.

Charnley got his second in the 70th minute before Joe Mellor capitalised on a Wakefield error to wrap up a 32-0 victory at Belle Vue.
