Catalans duo to play in the Championship this weekend
Super League club Catalans have confirmed that two of their players will feature for Toulouse via dual-registration this weekend.
Centre Matthieu Laguerre and hooker Ugo Tison will head to England with Toulouse on Saturday as they take on Swinton at Heywood Road.
Laguerre and Tison both played for France in their 64-0 defeat to England in the mid-season international last Saturday.
Laguerre, 24, has scored 16 tries in 29 appearances for Catalans since making his first team debut in 2021.
Meanwhile, Tison, 21, has played three first team games since making his first team bow last year.
New signing set for Catalans debut
Matt Ikuvalu could make his first appearance for Catalans on Friday night when they host world champions St Helens in Perpignan.
The 29-year-old has joined the Dragons on a deal for the rest of the season, with an option for 2024.
Ikuvalu scored 25 tries in 38 appearances in the NRL with Sydney Roosters and Cronulla Sharks since making his first-grade debut in 2018.
The Australian, who is of Tongan heritage, arrived in the south of France earlier this week.
Ikuvalu said: “I’m delighted to join the Dragons.
“I feel great about it all, everyone has been very welcoming so far and I’m excited to play for the club.
“My goals here are the same as they were back home. I want to win a comp and I believe this team can do it.
“I think the big reason to come here was the life experience that my family and I could gain by moving across the world together.
“Learning a new language as well playing with a good team. I’m also looking forward to linking up with old friends like Siosiua Taukeiaho and Adam Keighran.”
Catalans coach Steve McNamara said: “We are very happy to add Matt to our playing group.
“I’ve known Matt since my time at the Roosters and know he will bring real attacking quality and competition for places to our back line.”
Catalans will welcome back Mitchell Pearce, Julian Bousquet and Manu Ma’u against St Helens on Friday night.
