Huddersfield work down Wakey
A 16-point swing in a nine minute spell in the second half has spurred Huddersfield on to a 24-16 win over Wakefield at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The Giants were behind for large parts of the match and trailed 16-8 at half-time.
But they came alive after the break and bagged three tries in the final stages to snatch victory, leaving Trinity winless after two rounds of Super League.
Huddersfield started well thanks to centre Sam Wood.
He crossed in the fourth and seventh minutes for an 8-0 lead.
But Wakefield hit back when Liam Finn dived over from dummy half.
Then winger Ben Jones-Bishop scored one of the tries of the season. He took off on an outstanding run near his own try-line to touch down.
A Sam Williams penalty edged the visitors in front and then Jones-Bishop got his second right on half-time.
Wakefield looked set for their maiden victory of 2017
But in the second half Ukuma Ta’ai gave the Giants a lifeline when he forced his way over.
Danny Brough converted it to make it 16-14.
A strong effort from Oliver Roberts three minutes later extended their lead.
And then Danny Brough combined with Jermaine McGillvary to kill Wakefield off.
Brough danced through the Wakefield line and launched a pin-point kick to McGillvary for the winger to wrap the win up.
