Super League 2023: Every club’s average attendance so far

With 11 rounds of Super League action completed, Wigan hold the record for the biggest average attendance so far in the 2023 campaign.

The Warriors have an average of 14,353 across five home fixtures, including the huge 24,275 crowd for their Good Friday clash with St Helens, the biggest attendance at the DW Stadium since Good Friday 2005.

Their lowest of the season so far came during Round Four against Catalans on a Thursday night, with 11,451. Other attendances include 12,306 (vs Wakefield) 11,497 (vs Salford) and 12,240 (vs Wakefield).

Leeds are second best with an average crowd of 13,510 so far in 2023, with six home matches. Their biggest crowd came in Round Two during the televised match against Hull at Headingley Stadium with 16,140.

The Rhinos finished the 2022 regular Super League season with the top average in the competition with 12,940.

Elsewhere in Super League

Upon their return to the top flight, Leigh have recorded an average attendance of 7,270 so far in 2023 at the Leigh Sports Village.

Leigh broke their own Super League record crowd of 9,012 with 9,189 in attendance for the Battle of the Borough in Round Seven, with Wigan claiming a 34-6 victory.

Owner Derek Beaumont has provided the entertainment off the field so far this season, with the likes of Scouting for Girls, T’pau and The Lottery Winners all performing ahead of kick-off, with the latter recently celebrating their album hitting #1 in the charts.

Warrington also broke a record attendance earlier this season with a crowd of 15,026 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium against Wigan.

The new figure surpasses the previous record of 15,008 set on Good Friday in 2016 when Warrington defeated close neighbours Widnes.

The Super League leaders boast an average of 11,467 so far in 2023 – beating their previous number of 2022 by far at 8,719.

Hull KR, who have not posted their weekly attendances in 2023, announced their average of 8,782 earlier this week. It’s the side’s highest average attendance in the Super League era, with more than 6,000 members.

Neighbours Hull also record strong average crowd

Across the river, neighbours Hull have a strong average crowd of 13,291 across six home fixtures.

Their Good Friday derby, resulting in a massive 40-0 win for Hull KR, saw a strong crowd of 20,985 at the MKM Stadium.

During Easter weekend, Super League smashed its attendance for a regular round of matches with 83,357 across all six fixtures, beating the previous record in Easter 2019 by around 4,000.

Reigning champions St Helens have recorded an average of 12,384 across four home fixtures, having entered the competition during the second week due to their involvement in the World Club Challenge.

The biggest crowd came during Round Three against Leeds with 15,148 for their homecoming after beating Penrith Panthers in Australia.

Catalans have recorded a number slightly better than their overall average of 2022 with 8,832 across six fixtures this year. Two home ties so far have seen crowds bigger than 10,000 (10,786 v Warrington and 10,763 v St Helens).

Wakefield hold the lowest average crowd so far with 4,411, with four home games so far this season. Their highest crowd came during Round 10 with 4,710 watching on as Leigh claimed a 32-0 victory over the Super League strugglers.

Meanwhile, Salford’s number is 4,699 across five home fixtures at the AJ Bell Stadium. They have recorded the lowest crowd so far in Super League with 3,974 against Catalans in Round 10.

Finally, the John Smith’s Stadium has seen an average crowd of 5,397 with five home fixtures for Ian Watson’s Huddersfield. Their best yet in 2023 came in Round Two against Warrington with 7,771.
