Scotland international half-back Oscar Thomas has linked up with Championship club Newcastle Thunder on a trial following his spell in France.

The 29-year-old has returned to England following the end of the French Elite 1 Championship season, where he was playing with Villeneuve.

Thomas has won 12 caps for Scotland on the international stage, representing his Scottish heritage at the 2017 World Cup.

Newcastle coach Chris Thorman said: “Oscar has been playing in Elite One Division in France and I got to know him through my time at Workington.

“He’s got lots of Championship experience having been at the likes of Bradford and London Broncos.

“He’s a genuine utility back, who’s very talented and on his day he’s capable of playing anywhere in the backline.”

Other news from the French Elite competition

Another player who has returned to England from the French Elite competition is Pat Moran. The Ireland international prop has linked up with League 1 club Oldham on a deal until the end of the season.

Warrington academy product Moran made his international debut for Ireland under then head coach Stuart Littler.

Littler said: “He’s a player I know a lot about, as I’ve worked with him previously.

“He comes to add experience to our middle’s, he’s in good shape and is ready to go.

“We’ve been on the look-out for the right type of person to add value to our squad on and off the pitch and somebody who fits into our culture.

“Pat fits that criteria and we’re looking forward to seeing him in an Oldham shirt.”
