Super League: An impressive XIII of players whose contract expire at end of season
We are more than halfway through the 2023 Super League season and there are a number of star players without a contract for 2024.
From seasoned campaigners to young players just at the start of their careers, there are more than 100 players contracted with Super League clubs that are currently without a deal for 2024.
We’ve made an impressive XIII of players who are still without a deal for beyond this season…
1. Tui Lolohea (Huddersfield Giants)
The 28-year-old has won 16 caps for his beloved Tonga, representing his heritage in the last two World Cups.
Lolohea, who made 71 appearances in the NRL for New Zealand Warriors and Wests Tigers, has has been playing in Super League since 2019 for Leeds, Salford and now Huddersfield.
2. Abbas Miski (Wigan Warriors)
The Lebanon international has become somewhat of a fan favourite on the terraces of the DW Stadium this season.
Miski, who has represented the Cedars in the last two World Cups, has scored 16 tries in 20 appearances for the Warriors since arriving from London Broncos ahead of the 2022 season.
3. Adam Keighran (Catalans Dragons)
The Australian has impressed in Super League since arriving from the NRL ahead of this season.
Keighran, 26, has scored six tries and kicked 36 goals for the Dragons in 12 appearances to date.
4. Konrad Hurrell (St Helens)
The Tongan powerhouse has become favourite on the terraces at the Totally Wicked Stadium since he joined the champions from Leeds ahead of last season.
Hurrell, who has played in three World Cups for Tonga, helped St Helens win the Super League Grand Final last season.
Saints coach Paul Wellens has recently said they’d love to keep Hurrell at the club beyond this season, but no deal has yet been announced.
5. Ethan Ryan (Hull KR)
It has been confirmed that the Ireland international will leave Hull KR when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Ryan has scored 20 tries in 36 games for the Robins since arriving at Craven Park from Bradford ahead of the 2020 campaign.
The Halifax-born winger, who has won five caps for Ireland, has been linked with a move to Salford for next season by Hull Live, but it has yet to be officially confirmed.
6. Mitchell Pearce (Catalans Dragons)
The 34-year-old is one of the greatest half-backs in NRL history, having won the NRL Premiership with Sydney Roosters in 2013 as well as playing 19 games in the State of Origin arena for New South Wales.
Pearce, who is in his second season in Super League with the Dragons, has been linked with a return to the NRL for next season although nothing on his future has yet been announced.
7. Lachlan Lam (Leigh Leopards)
The Papua New Guinea international has been one of the standout players in Super League this season.
Lam linked up with his father Adrian at Leigh midway through last season and played a key role in helping the Leopards clinch promotion from the Championship.
Speaking after their win over Hull a fortnight ago, Leigh coach Adrian Lam said: “We are still working hard on keeping him here.
“There is interesting coming from all over the place at the moment, even in Super League, so we are trying to fend it all off as we do but that’s what you get when you are playing good rugby, you get interest from around the place.
“I’m confident that he’ll stay here next year but we’ll have to wait and see. Hopefully we can get that finalised in the next couple of weeks.”

8. King Vuniyaywa (Salford Red Devils)
The Fiji international has impressed since returning to Super League with Salford ahead of last season, making 34 appearances for the club so far.
Vuniyayawa, who has previously played for New Zealand Warriors and Leeds, has won seven caps for Fiji and represented his country at last year’s World Cup.
9. Joe Lovodua (Hull FC)
The 25-year-old half-back or hooker has been in Super League since 2021 with Hull FC, where has played 34 games to date.
Lovodua, who represented Fiji at the 2017 World Cup, has made nine appearances for Tony Smith’s side so far this season.
10. Patrick Mago (Wigan Warriors)
The 28-year-old is currently in his second season with the Warriors, having helped Matt Peet’s side lift the Challenge Cup in Tottenham last year.
Mago, a New Zealand-born front-rower of Samoan heritage, has made 43 appearances for Wigan since his arrival, with 12 of those coming this season.
He joined Wigan on a two-year deal from NRL side South Sydney Rabbitohs ahead of the 2022 season, with the option of a third in the club’s favour for 2024.

11. Ellis Longstaff (Warrington Wolves)
The 20-year-old back-rower is currently on a season-long loan at Salford from Warrington, making five appearances for the Red Devils.
Speaking to the press last week, Warrington coach Daryl Powell hinted that Longstaff may not be at the Wolves upon the expiry of his contract later this year.
Longstaff, who can also play centre, has won international honours for England Knights and also qualifies to play for Scotland.

12. James Bentley (Leeds Rhinos)
The Ireland international is currently in his second season with his boyhood club Leeds after arriving from champions St Helens on a two-year deal.
Bentley has made more than 100 career appearances for Bradford, St Helens and Leeds. He has won eight caps for Ireland, representing his Irish heritage at last year’s World Cup.
13. Sione Mata’utia (St Helens)
The former Australia and Samoa international has been a key member of St Helens’ pack since arriving at the club ahead of the 2021 campaign.
Mata’utia has scored 10 tries in 48 games for St Helens so far, playing in their last two Super League Grand Final triumphs.
The former Newcastle Knights star has primarily played in the back-row during his time at Saints, but has been utilised in the front-row as well in recent weeks.
