“It’s above me” – Josh McGuire future not up to Warrington Wolves boss
Warrington head coach Daryl Powell says the future of Josh McGuire will be decided by those above him at the club, as well as the player and his agent.
McGuire, 33, was found guilty of a second Grade F unacceptable language charge of the year in Round 13 against Leigh.
In has been a disastrous spell for McGuire’s first year in England, having also missed the opening seven games of the season due to the same charge during a pre-season fixture against Adrian Lam’s Leopards.
Having been made to wait until Round Eight to make his debut, McGuire has since featured seven times for the Halliwell Jones Stadium outfit, scoring once.
The lengthy ban, one of Super League’s longest ever, left doubts over McGuire’s Warrington and playing career. However, Powell insists that the decision is out of his hands.
McGuire had the right to appeal the decision, but has decided to not do so, as Powell’s side prepare for their Challenge Cup quarter-finals tie with Wigan this Sunday at the DW Stadium.
Josh McGuire decision out of Daryl Powell’s hands
“I think that’s for the CEO and his agent and for Josh himself to decide where that goes,” Powell told media on Thursday on McGuire’s future.
“For me, I’m focussing on the game at the weekend. That’s all I’m really looking at, at the moment.
“It’s important we keep focused on the game and making sure our training and performances are where they need to be. We’re going to have to be on top of our game and I don’t want any distractions around that.
“It’s nothing to do with me, it’s above me.
“It’s for Karl [Fitzpatrick, Warrington CEO] and his agent and Josh himself. I’ll leave it up to them.
“There’s nothing I can do about it and I’m focussed on the players that can play this weekend.”
