Hull FC: St Helens win could be ‘turning point’ as Tony Smith’s side make push for play-offs
Hull FC forward Andre Savelio hopes their emphatic win over champions St Helens can kick-start their season as they make a charge for the play-offs.
The Airlie Birds produced an impressive performance to pick up an emphatic 34-6 win over Super League champions St Helens at the MKM Stadium on Thursday night.
Savelio, who came through the academy at Saints, put in match of the match display to help Hull claim their first win over St Helens in 17 attempts.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Savelio said: “I’ve been here for five of them (six years) and I’ve told them the last three times that we’ve played Saints that we haven’t beat them since I’ve been here.
“And there’s a reason for that, they’ve been the best team in the comp by a landslide for the last four or five years so that’s massive for us to get a result over them and hopefully it kick-starts our season.”
St Helens win could be the catalyst for turning our season around, says Hull FC star Andre Savelio
Hull’s win over Saints sees them move up to eighth in the Super League table, four points away from a play-off spot.
Savelio says he hopes their win over the champions can help turn their fortunes around this season.
He added: “The last couple of years at the halfway mark we’ve also sort of been top six and then fell off whereas this year we’ve gone a bit back to front, we’re at the bottom and have to chase the pack.
“For me, I said to the boys this week that we need to get a win here and it could be the catalyst and turning point for us and we need to go on a bit of a run to make a push for the play-offs, its not over until its over so hopefully thats what it was.”
Next up for Hull is a home clash against league leaders Catalans Dragons next Saturday, 3pm kick-off.
