Stone: We weren’t clinical enough

Huddersfield head coach Rick Stone rued his side’s inability to take their chances when they came along.

Huddersfield slumped to a second successive defeat on Friday, losing 30-0 against the Centurions at the Leigh Sports Village.

“I think we had 58 good ball plays to their 36 in the first half and we didn’t utilise ours well enough,” he said.

“Execution wise I thought there was a big difference between the two teams.”

With the Giants trailing 12-0 at half-time Stone thought his team lacked patience early on after the break.

“We had a chance probably just after half-time where we were putting a bit of a pressure and we were just a little bit impatient trying to force the issue and not build for it,” he added.

“Our last plays probably weren’t great.”

Leigh were also the better side at dealing with the slippery conditions, according to Stone.

“The ball was very slippy and you saw that in the amount of errors particularly contact ones that happened in the first half,” he continued.

“It was disappointing how we come up in those conditions and didn’t manage them as well as our opposition.”

One of the surprise inclusions on the Giants’ team sheet was winger Jermaine McGillvary and Stone admitted it might have been a mistake him coming back so soon.

The England winger was ruled out for six weeks after picking up a thigh injury just a couple of games ago.

“He raced the clock a little bit to get back for this week and possibly it was a little bit too soon,” he said.

“He did get through the game without any problems with his squad which was a bonus.”
