Chester not getting carried away

Wakefield Trinity coach Chris Chester is keeping his feet firmly on the ground despite seeing his team record successive Super League victories.

Trinity visit Leeds Rhinos on Friday on the back of wins against St Helens and Salford, but Chester is refusing to get carried away.

“We want to consolidate our position in the eight and finish as high as we possibly can – we’ve got ambitions and I believe we’ve got a group of players here who are capable of doing some special things, but it’s very difficult to break into that top four,” he said.

“There’s only Leeds, Wigan, Bradford and Saints who have won the Grand Final, so it’s a very difficult thing to achieve.”

Trinity gained a 20-16 victory in the corresponding fixture last term, but the Rhinos hit back later in the season with a 32-6 success at Wakefield.

Chester admits that beating Leeds on their home patch is extra special.

“Being a Wakefield fan, there’s nothing better than beating Leeds at Leeds,” Chester added. “It doesn’t happen very often, but we’ve had a little bit of joy over the last couple of years.”
