Wakefield Trinity star banned; Loophole means he won’t miss next Super League game
The Rugby Football League’s match review panel have given Wakefield Trinity hooker Liam Hood a one-match ban following Round 19 of Super League action.
The Scotland international was given a one-match suspension for a Grade B dangerous contact in Wakefield’s 34-6 defeat at Huddersfield on Friday night.
Wakefield don’t have a first team game this week due to the Challenge Cup semi-finals taking place. However, their reserves play Warrington on Friday, so Hood will be able to count that game as his one-match suspension, meaning he will be free to play in their next Super League fixture against Warrington on Sunday, July 30.
In addition, new signing Josh Griffin and trialist Hugo Salabio will be able to use Friday’s reserves game to count towards their lengthy suspensions.
Hood is the only player to receive a suspension following Round 19 of Super League.
There were seven players who received £250 fines though – Max Jowitt (Wakefield), Adam Milner (Huddersfield), Bevan French (Wigan), Kaide Ellis (Wigan), Harvie Hill (Wigan), James Bentley (Leeds) and Alex Mellor (Castleford).
Meanwhile, Leeds winger David Fusitu’a and Catalans prop Romain Navarrete received cautions from the match review panel.
