Fuifui Moimoi: Rugby league cult hero set to return to action at 42

Fuifui Moimoi is set to return to the rugby league field in the amateur game after registering with Millom RLFC, Love Rugby League understands. 

The 42-year-old veteran last featured for Rochdale Hornets in League 1, leaving the professional game at the conclusion of the 2022 campaign.

Love Rugby League understands that Moimoi, who made 201 appearances in the NRL with Parramatta Eels, has handed in a request to sign with the Cumbrian-based side ahead of their fixture with Leigh East this weekend.

Millom, believed to be the oldest amateur rugby league club in the world, having been founded in 1873, feature in the National Conference League Division 3 and currently sit fourth on the table with nine wins from 13.

A cult hero of the sport, Moimoi made the move to England initially with then-Leigh Centurions ahead of the 2015 Championship campaign.

The move ended an 11-year playing spell with Parramatta Eels, having made his debut way back in Round 8 of the 2004 NRL season. The prop was a try-scorer in the 2009 Grand Final 23-16 defeat to Melbourne Storm.

He represented both New Zealand and Tonga on the international scene across his NRL career, and later linked up with Toronto Wolfpack for their inaugural season in League 1.

He was released by the Canadian side and enjoyed a brief spell in rugby union before returning to his beloved code, signing with Workington Town for the 2018 season.

Moimoi went on to make the switch to the Crown Oil Arena under then-head coach Matt Calland in 2021.

The 2009 RLIF Prop of the Year made 33 appearances for Rochdale across two years, scoring 13 tries, and was among 13 players to leave the club at the end of last season due to a reduced playing budget.
