Exclusive: New Super League club expresses interest in Hull FC forward Andre Savelio

Huddersfield Giants have held talks with Hull FC’s Andre Savelio and are increasingly confident they can wrap up a move for the forward for the 2024 season, Love Rugby League can reveal.

The 28-year-old’s contract at the MKM Stadium expires at the end of the current campaign, and an exit from the Black and Whites looks increasingly likely.

Savelio’s services were offered to Super League clubs for the remainder of this season earlier in the summer, and the prospect of a stay with Tony Smith’s side appeared out of the question from that moment. Indeed, Love Rugby League understands Tony Smith’s side are seemingly heading in a different direction next year.

That has alerted Huddersfield to the situation, with discussions understood to have taken place between Savelio and the Giants about a potential contract for 2024 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

A deal is yet to be finalised, but it looks increasingly likely Savelio could agree terms, Love Rugby League has been told, and make the move to West Yorkshire next season.

Andre Savelio heading for Hull exit

Savelio has featured just 12 times for Hull in all competitions this season, with his most recent appearance coming against the Giants in last Thursday’s defeat to Ian Watson’s side. He was limited to just eight appearances in the 2022 campaign.

Catalans Dragons were reported to have also shown an interest in the forward but that speculation was believed to be wide of the mark. But the Giants have now made a play to try and Savelio’s services and offer him a Super League lifeline for 2024.

He has been with Hull since the start of the 2019 season, with his form throughout the 2021 campaign not only earning him a new two-year deal, but a call-up to the Combined Nations All Stars squad, too.

However, his time at the MKM Stadium looks to be drawing to a close.
