Theo Fages: Catalans Dragons move confirmed as Huddersfield Giants star targets trophies in France
Catalans Dragons have announced the signing of Theo Fages from Huddersfield Giants from the 2024 season on a two-year deal.
The France international returns to his homeland under Steve McNamara next season, ending a two-year stint with Huddersfield.
Fages, 28, joined Ian Watson’s side ahead of the 2022 campaign from St Helens, but has been limited to appearances due to injuries.
He featured just 17 times in his debut season last year, missing the Challenge Cup final with Wigan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The half-back has made just eight more appearances so far in 2023 due to multiple injuries.
Huddersfield coach Ian Watson all but confirmed the player’s departure on Friday, speaking with the press ahead of his side’s rearranged Round 1 clash with St Helens.
Theo Fages on Catalans Dragons move
“I’m very happy and excited to sign for Catalans Dragons,” Fages said.
“I can’t wait to wear the club’s jersey. It will be an honour to wear the shirt in front of my family, friends, and fans.
“I’m proud to have the opportunity to join this great squad. I will do my best to bring back home many trophies for the club.”
Head coach McNamara added: “Theo has shown a huge desire and commitment to play for the Dragons and his return to France is great for the game here.
“He is a Catalan, a leader and a player who knows how to win.
“We look forward to welcoming him to our club in 2024.”
Watson paid tribute to Fages and his efforts for Huddersfield, commenting: “I would like to start by thanking Theo for the last two years, he is a player and person who I hold in the highest regard.
“I would have loved Theo to have continued on the journey we discussed when signing him but unfortunately there has been a lot of things for Theo and his family to have dealt with over the last two years.
“Theo has been a model professional and person and we all support him in the decision he has now made and wish him all the very best in his new venture with Catalans.”
