Ken Sio future confirmed as Salford Red Devils winger enters final few months of current contract
Winger Ken Sio looks set to remain with Salford Red Devils beyond the 2023 campaign with his current contract set to expire at the end of the year.
Sio, 32, signed an extended two-year deal with the club in September 2021. He previously told Love Rugby League that he would be keen to see out the rest of his career with the Red Devils.
Head coach Paul Rowley confirmed to Love Rugby League that the Combined Nations All Stars representative will remain at the Salford Stadium with a new contract set to be announced in the near future.
Sio celebrated his 100th Salford appearance in the 20-0 win over Wakefield during Super League Round 23, having crossed for his 100th Super League try in the victory against Huddersfield last week.
Rowley praised the Samoa-eligible winger following Friday’s victory in a fairly forgettable fixture, with full-back Ryan Brierley opening and closing the scoring and hooker Andy Ackers crossing on the 49th minute.
Named in the 2022 Super League Dream Team alongside team-mate Tim Lafai, Sio has enjoyed 11 tries in 20 Super League appearances so far this year.
Ken Sio future confirmed by Salford boss
“For me, I thought he was the best player on the field,” Rowley told Love Rugby League.
“I thought everything he did was of really high quality and I think today was just another example of how he’s been performing week in, week out.
“Probably for the last four weeks he’s been performing to a really high standard. He’s kept his head down, he’s working hard and he is quality.
“In a game without many shining stars, I thought Ken was definitely one of those.
“He’s been very important and we’re pleased to see him get his 100th appearance for Salford.”
On his future, Rowley confirmed: “He’ll be staying with us. It’s not even a concern.”
