St Helens star leaves action early

St Helens coach Paul Wellens provided a full injury update on his side following their win at Wakefield on Sunday afternoon.

Konrad Hurrell made his return to the team on Saturday after missing the previous four games with a calf strain. However, the Tonga international left the action in the first half.

Speaking in his post-match press conference about Hurrell, Wellens told St Helens Star: “He got a bit of a calf strain and that is something he has had issues with in the past.

“We are not in the business, at this point of the season, of forcing players to stay out on the field and making a problem worse.

“We will get him assessed in the week and I will sit down with the medical staff to see where he is at with that one.”

Meanwhile, Morgan Knowles missed the Wakefield game with a groin issue, but Wellens is hopeful he’ll return for this weekend’s clash with Leigh.

Wellens said young prop Dan Norman will be assessed further this week after suffering a head knock in the latter stages of the game.

The positive news for Saints is that star man Jonny Lomax will be available to face Leigh after passing his head injury assessment.

One in, one out for Hull KR

Hull KR will be without key forward Elliot Minchella for Friday’s game against Huddersfield after failing his head injury assessment in their win over Catalans.

The return to play concussion protocol means he’ll miss their trip to the John Smith’s Stadium this weekend.

However, there is positive news for Hull KR, with Samoan international prop Sauaso Sue set to return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines this weekend, according to Hull Live.

Dagger suffers suspected broken collarbone

Will Dagger‘s season could be over after the Wakefield full-back suffered a suspected broken collarbone in the first half of their 32-16 defeat to St Helens on Sunday afternoon, and will be looked at further in the coming days.

Castleford trio pick up three injuries

Castleford suffered a triple injury blow in the first half of their 66-12 defeat to Warrington.

Young prop Sam Hall opened the scoring for the Tigers in the fourth minute but left the action for a head injury assessment 10 minutes later, which he failed, so was unable to return.

And the Tigers suffered a second failed HIA, with forward George Lawler leaving the action midway through the first half at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The return to play concussion protocol means Hall and Lawler will both miss Friday’s match against Hull FC at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Castleford’s third injury blow came to new recruit Charbel Tasipale in the latter stages of the first 40, with the Lebanon international sitting out the rest of the match.

Handley misses Leeds win at Hull

Leeds were without star winger Ash Handley for their win over Hull FC on Saturday due to a foot injury, according to Leeds Live.

Rhinos coach Rohan Smith is likely to provide an update on the England international in his press conference later this week. Leeds host Wigan at Headingley this Saturday.
