Wigan Warriors tie down overseas powerhouse to new contract: ‘He is determined to build on his recent form’

Wigan Warriors have handed a new one-year deal to off-contract Samoan powerhouse Patrick Mago, with an option in the club’s favour for a further year in 2025.

The 28-year-old prop linked up with the Warriors from NRL side South Sydney Rabbitohs ahead of the 2022 campaign, making 54 appearances for Matt Peet’s side to date.

On signing his contract extension, Mago said: “I’m really happy to have extended my contract.

“I’ve been here for the last two years, I’m enjoying my footie and my time here so far, especially with the group of boys that we have.

“I love it here, the fans here are crazy and I’m pleased to be staying.”

Patrick Mago ‘determined’ to build on recent form

On Mago’s new deal, Wigan coach Peet said: “Patrick has worked tremendously hard to secure this extension with the club. He and his family should be very proud.

“He is determined to build on his recent form and our expectations of him have been made very clear.

“Hopefully Patrick can become a Wigan player for many more seasons as he is a great personality and adored by everyone at the club.”

Mago is one of many to have committed their future to the club this week, following in the footsteps of Mike Cooper, Willie Isa and coach Peet.

Forward trio Mago, Cooper and Isa have all signed one-year deals with the Warriors for 2024, whilst Peet has committed to his hometown club until at least the end of 2027.

The Warriors are currently sat top of the Super League table with two games of the regular season remaining. They are ahead of Catalans and St Helens on points difference.

Peet’s side face Castleford and Leigh in their remaining games as they look to wrap up the League Leaders’ Shield.
