Following a nationwide search, the winners of the inaugural Dacia #FlairPlay Awards, have been announced.

Car brand Dacia, proud partner to the Rugby Football League, called on community players to share their most skilful manoeuvres for the chance to win a pro training session for their club.

During a tough judging process, it was Alfie Fairbank, Sam Ball, Henry Briscoe and Tom Stocks who won the judges’ seal of approval.

Having impressed the elite judging panel which included Sam Tomkins and Kallum Watkins with their #FlairPlay entries, the winners have earned their club the chance to host a community day at their local rugby league club later this summer.

The winning clubs – Siddal, Pilkington Recs, Crosfields Vipers and Cottingham Tigers – will now play host to Super League players and coaches as well as their local community, supported by Dacia and their local dealers.

The winning skills, which include rainbow kicks, crossbar challenges and even precision kicking into the boot of a Dacia Duster, are now on display in the Dacia Skill Showroom.

They will also be shown at the Dacia Magic Weekend at Newcastle’s St James’ Park this weekend, as the winners take to the field deliver the match ball before the games.

Watkins said: “I knew that there was a lot of talent at the grassroots of the game but all of the judges were really impressed by the level of #FlairPlay on display not just from our four winners but the runners up too.

“We all judged the skills on whether we would be able to do them and there were some tricks on show that I definitely wouldn’t be able to do. There are some really skilful kids out there which can only be great for the game.”

In addition to the professional players and coaches, Dacia and the local dealer, will be providing each of the winning clubs with training equipment, auction items and marketing support, that will not only make sure that the training session is a massive success but that the club can continue to encourage #FlairPlay for years to come.

Judge Kylie Leulaui added: “This prize isn’t just for the individual and their club, it’s something that the entire community can enjoy so if one of the winning clubs is near you, keep an eye out for more event details.

“It’s a great opportunity to get close to your heroes at the same time as supporting your local club. They’ll be plenty to do off the pitch to with activities for all ages to get involved with.”

Ed Preston, Dacia Communications Manager, said: “The reaction to the Dacia #FlairPlay Awards has been incredible and as a proud supporter of community rugby league, we’re excited to be able to bring these deserving clubs a great experience.

“As well as bringing the Super League experience to the community, we’re also able to bring the community clubs into the Super League, handing over our assets at Betfred Super League matchdays to support the clubs.

“Hopefully, as well as being an enjoyable day for all the communities, the events will help unlock new possibilities for the players and the game at the grassroots.”
