Broncos desperate for top-four finish

London Broncos’ boss Andrew Henderson says the club desperately needs a top-four finish in the Championship if it is to maintain its full-time status.

The Broncos’ 56-12 victory at Bradford on Sunday kept them fourth in the table and still firmly in the mix to qualify for the Middle 8s.

“A top four finish is a must – it’s a must if we are to reach Super League, and it’s a must if we are to continue as a full-time operation,” Henderson told the club’s official website.

“I think it’s the same for a few of those clubs at the top and, I’ll be honest, we all need the money from Sky.

“We are nowhere near the salary cap at the moment. We work to the budget we have, but hopefully that can improve as the team improves.

“With that comes increased revenues on the commercial side of things and at the turnstiles. The more we keep doing things right on the field. the more it improves off it.

“It also helps that we have a stable home now as the team has been relatively nomadic over the years, but we want to bed down in Ealing and make a home within the community here.

“We are very proud of the fact that there are London grown players in Super League and the NRL and that’s credit to those who came before me.

“A third of our players are London based, and you can see the level of young players like Alex Walker strutting their stuff out there.

“We are doing a lot of good work that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves as we are producing players not only for Championship level but those who could also make the grade in the top leagues too, and I feel we are helping the British game in general.”
