Sheens confident squad will stick together

Tim Sheens is confident he can keep his Hull KR squad together regardless of which division the club is in next season.

With Rovers are chasing an immediate return to the Super League, Sheens says they have been busy speaking to players to ensure the team stays intact.

“The situation doesn’t happen very often where you get a club go down a division, lose everyone, then redo the contracts – there is no guarantee for us to go up either, is there?” Sheens told the Hull Daily Mail.

“There’s an option subject to Super League. We are negotiating with a few players who have that clause inserted into their contracts. They’ll stay on the basis that we go back up this year.

“We’ve got some work to do there, but most of them are of the opinion that they’ll stay on regardless. We want most of them to stay on, that’s obviously what we’d prefer.”

Sheens admitted that recent reports linking Adam Quinlan with a move from Rovers to Leigh due to a Super League clause in his current deal weren’t unexpected, but he insisted the 24-year-old is going nowhere.

“It’s not as stupid as Sydney over here for rumours, but social media gets carried away with those sorts of things,” added Sheens.

“You can expect that sort of stuff in May, with everyone trying to tie people up and we’re no exception.

“Adam is committed to the club this year and there is a clause in his contract for next year too if we make Super League.”
