Crarey proud of Barrow’s cup victory

Paul Crarey says Barrow’s League 1 Cup win over the weekend was one of the proudest moments of his career.

The Raiders came from ten points down with 20 minutes to play to secure a 38-32 victory North Wales Crusaders in front of a large travelling contingent of fans at Bloomfield Road.

“We produced the goods and came up with the win after probably what has been the toughest month that I’ve ever endured in the professional game,” Crarey told the club’s official website.

“It is a platform now for us to spring off – get rid of Hunslet at the weekend.

“We are part of the history now. You can build a club and be remembered, but we are on the board. We have actually achieved something, winning the League One Cup. We have got to be proud of what we have done as a club to lift some silverware.

“It had to be won and we have done it on the back of some big adversity, that’s the most pleasing thing to me.

The crowd were magnificent, over a 1,000 travelling fans from Barrow. When we were 30-20 down the chant went up, you could see the boys pin their ears back and want to fight for them.

“Martin Aspinwall put in some crunching, leg driving tackles which probably ignited the fire as well. There were a lot of things that put us in the ascendancy from being down and out.

“To turn a 10-point deficit around in the last 20 minutes of a game when all could have been lost is a magnificent achievement for these fellas.

“It’s Hunslet next – hopefully a big crowd can come down and get behind us. We will need them again because Gary Thornton (Hunslet coach) is pretty astute – they will be clinical now he is in charge and they will come and try to upset us.”
