Sheens satisfied with a point

Tim Sheens says Hull KR’s draw at Featherstone on Sunday was a point gained, but he admitted he was hugely disappointed with his team’s first-half performance.

Rovers trailed 16-0 at the break, but fought back to take the lead before conceding a late penalty that gave Featherstone a share of the spoils.

Sheens said: “There was a lot of effort to come back in the second half and hit the front. It is disappointing that we gave away a number of penalties to ferry them out of their own half.

“We came away with a point which is a reasonable effort considering where we were at half-time I suppose. An away game draw is a point won, but there is a slight numbness to the point as we did get in front and lose it to a penalty goal, and (Jamie) Ellis’ drop goal kick fell metres short.

“The players got frustrated with the official at times and there were some calls that went against us, but I’m sure they would say the same thing. Some players spent a lot of time discussing calls with him instead of preparing for the next play, which I wasn’t happy with.

“I was really disappointed with those two players at the end to allow the ball to be stripped and then be pulled up for a high tackle.

“I had some words to say at half-time and the players got pretty involved in that as well. We came out in the second half and defended well in the first two sets to build some pressure, but we needed more of that in the first half.

“Under the circumstances of this type of game you learn a lot about what your side is capable of, and I was pretty disappointed with a handful of players today. However, this is a good opportunity to put some more things right in training.”
