Bridge to retire at the end of the season

Chris Bridge has confirmed he will retire from playing at the end of the Super League season.

Bridge has been an integral part of Widnes’ recent victories over Leeds and Catalan and he says he’s determined to enjoy more success in his final year.

“I’ve struggled with injuries, so my boots are going up at the end of the year. All I’ve ever wanted to do is play rugby, so I’m going to enjoy my last year.

“I’m made up with the recent results, and all the boys are too. It’s the first time since last year that we’ve put back-to-back wins together, so we’re ecstatic and hopefully building something. The confidence is pretty high.

“There was togetherness. We were on the front-foot and we didn’t think we’d lose. It was one of those games that everyone enjoyed.

“We’ve been lifted with Rangi Chase and the Warrington boys (loan signings, Jack Johnstone and Sam Wilde) coming in, and getting a few boys back from injury.

“We seem to be really clicking at the moment – we’re playing decent stuff, the supporters are really getting behind us, and there’s a good feeling about the place.”

Bridge has played 272 professional career games to date, including spells at Warrington and Bradford.
