Hull delighted after Salford rout

Lee Radford believes Hull delivered one of their best performances of the season on Friday as they romped to a 34-10 victory at Salford.

Albert Kelly topped the scoring with a pair of tires to move Hull just a point behind the Red Devils in the Super League table.

“I thought it was our most dedicated performance in terms of what we ask for,” said Radford. “Salford and Castleford probably challenge you more than any of the other teams in the competition coming out of their own half.

“We worked on their shapes during the week but we wanted to nullify the threat of their big fellas and that’s exactly what we did.

“As much as you say you won’t let it happen, you always expect a bit of response. We couldn’t have got off to a worse start in the second half and that’s something we’ve got to fix up.”

Mahe Fonua was back in the Hull line-up last night for the first time since the start of May and he paid tribute to the younger members of the squad who have filled in recent weeks.

“It was a good game to come back in after last week – the boys won against Wigan and I thought they continued their form and we stuck to our gameplan, followed the process come away with the win,” he told the club’s official website.

“We’ve got a bit of depth in our team and the young players that step up into the team, because of the all the stuff we do in pre-season and during the season, the young fellas that come into the team know what to do and do it well.

“We’ve had some big injuries like our skipper Gareth Ellis, Scott Taylor, Danny Houghton – a lot of the boys have been out. But the young boys that have stepped in have done a really good job.”
