Day enjoying life at Batley

Second row forward Brad Day is in his third season with Batley Bulldogs.

The 22-year-old played a starring role in the defeat of Swinton, scoring a try as part of Batley’s 26-12 success.

“It’s been great – it’s a great club,” he said. “Everybody knows everybody. It’s family. You always feel welcome, which is nice and I think that shows in your rugby as well. If you are enjoying yourself, obviously you are going to play better as well.

“I think we’ve got a great group of lads. We do socials together and that’s always good because you find other common interests with each other and get to share it.”

After competing in the Super League Qualifiers last year, Batley have been somewhat inconsistent under new coach Matt Diskin, although the signs are there that this squad is knitting together at the right time.

“It’s been a bit different this year,” the former Castleford player added.

“We just have to embrace that now and take it week-by-week and see where we can get. Hopefully we will start moving up the ladder and do well – possibly get to the Shield or depending on results, I know it’s a long shot, but the top four.

“We’ll concentrate week on week now and try and get some form together – work on our partnerships and hopefully it will provide dividends at the end of the year.”
