Toovey adds Sironen to Bulls’ squad

Former Queensland Cup Trophy and Grand Final winner Damian Sironen has signed for Bradford.

The 24-year-old boast experience from four NRL clubs – Melbourne Storm, where he played under-20s, Gold Coast Titans, Newcastle Knights and St George Illawarra, as well as his time playing second tier football.

The forward’s blood runs thick with rugby league greatness, as he is the nephew to league legend Paul Sironen and cousin to Manly Sea Eagles’ Curtis Sironen.

Bulls’ boss Geoff Toovey said: “He comes from that winning culture – he has good leg speed, good hand skills and has played at that level that demands you play at your best every week, so you have to be consistent, which he is.

“He comes from a section of the league where teams have been successful and he has been a part of it. He has that experience and that winning attitude, hopefully that swagger will come with him.”

Sironen added: “I’m very excited about the opportunity to play for such a famous club.

“It is an exciting time for the club as it rebuilds from the tough time it has had and it will be great to play under a top-quality coach and international player like Geoff Toovey.

“I hope I bring some experience from a winning culture after winning Grand Finals with the Knights and Dragons in the previous two seasons, as well as some good, solid effort in the middle and getting through a lot of work.

“It’s a privilege to join a club that has such a proud history and hopefully can climb back to the top level.

“I toured England when I was 16 with an Australian Institute of Sport team and loved the culture of English football.

“I wanted to grab this chance with both hands and I can’t wait to get over there and do all I can for the team.”
