Gidley content with retirement decision

Warrington’s Kurt Gidley says he has no regrets over his decision to retire from playing at the end of the season.

The 35-year-old recently announced he would be hanging up his boots at the end of the current campaign to return to Australia and he believes it was the right decision to make.

“When I left Australia I’d always planned to be over here for two years,” said Gidley.

“I only signed a one year deal with Warrington to start with and extended for another year. I guess I always had that two years in my mind.

“I was always open to staying longer, but deep down I knew after getting a couple of months into this season that mentally and physically I’m ready to finish up and I’m happy with that decision.

“My body is still holding up pretty well – I’ve not had any major issues this year. I suppose mentally is part of the reason why I’m happy to finish up this year.

“I’ve been playing for a long time and mentally you’ve got to be up for every game. I just feel like the time is right at the moment to hang the boots up and I’m happy I’m finishing on my own terms.

“I’ll be taking a bit of a break before I see what’s the next step.”
