Hull KR return to Super League at first attempt

Hull KR secured an immediate return to Super League thanks to a 12-6 win over Widnes at the weekend.

Rovers have a 100% record in The Qualifiers and five wins from five means they are back in the top flight next season.

They were relegated in the most heartbreaking fashion last season, losing to Salford in golden point extra time.

Coach Tim Sheens told the club’s official website: “It’s hard to describe the feeling in the dressing room, you probably had to be in there to appreciate it, but it’s a great moment for the club and everybody involved – players, staff, administrators, owners and supporters.

“I was employed to coach the team and hopefully get them back in Super League and we’ve done that today. There’s plenty of satisfaction there and it compares with the other success I’ve had in my career for sure.

“But I’m more pleased for the club and everybody who went through that Million Pound Game on this ground 12 months ago. We put that right.”

Hull KR’s progress means that for the second successive season, at least one team will be relegated from Super League.

Widnes, Catalans and Leigh are now fighting to avoid the Million Pound Game and the dreaded drop.
