Leigh retain Reynolds

Half-back Ben Reynolds has committed to relegated Leigh by signing a new three-year deal.

Reynolds, 23, was the club’s leading point scorer in 2017 as they suffered a heartbreaking relegation from Super League with defeat to Catalans in the Million Pound Game.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted to sign this new deal. Staying with Leigh Centurions was what I wanted to do and though relegation was a big downfall for everyone I am relishing the challenge ahead to get the Club back to where it belongs. 

 “Every year is a challenge and next year will be no different and I am confident that we will come back stronger as a team.”

Reynolds contributed 158 points, including eight tries, in 22 games and has been with the Centurions since moving from Castleford in November 2014.

Club owner Derek Beaumont added: “I am delighted that Ben has agreed to stay at the Club and fight on, despite interest from Super League. 

“I rate him highly and he knows that it was me that brought him to the Club and that I believe in him and his ability. He played a lot of Super League this year and will be better for it as he continues to develop. 

“The fact he has agreed to stay on and fight for me and this Club speaks volumes for him and I place on record my appreciation for his loyalty to me and this town. Ben is a popular player so I know the fans will be pleased to hear he is staying.”
