Six Tackles: Best Super League Half-backs of 2017
Here at Love Rugby League, we have picked out six of the in-form half-backs in the Betfred Super League this season.
Luke Gale (Castleford Tigers)
The England ace has been the best player in the Betfred Super League this season and deservedly won the Steve Prescott Man of Steel award after a brilliant 2017 campaign.
Gale has scored 13 tries in 26 Super League games and has kicked 129 goals for the Tigers. He has also added seven vital drop-goals and has come up with 20 assists.
Joel Moon (Leeds Rhinos)
The Australian started the season in his familiar centre role but he swapped positions with Liam Sutcliffe and Brian McDermott’s decision has certainly paid off – in both areas.
Moon has scored 15 tries in 26 games in Super League this season and has bust 54 tackles. Leeds can always rely on him, making 411 tackles when doing the dirty work in defence.
Marc Sneyd (Hull FC)
The Hull FC star has had, arguably, his best year of his career to date. He won the Lance Todd trophy in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Final following a masterclass kicking display.
He is well-known for his kicking ability in front of goal as well as in play. He has kicked 103 goals this season, three one-pointers and four fourty-twenties for the Airlie Birds.
George Williams (Wigan Warriors)
You can see why Wayne Bennett has selected the youngster for England at the World Cup. He was rewarded with a new deal earlier in the season following his classy displays.
He causes defences all kinds of problems with his footwork, scoring 11 tries in 29 Super League games this season. He also tops the league’s assists chart with 29 to his name.
Albert Kelly (Hull FC)
Alongside Luke Gale in the halves, Albert Kelly was named in the Super League Dream Team and was also nominated for the Steve Prescott Man of Steel award after a brilliant year.
The former Hull KR man has scored 19 tries in 24 league games which is a great stat for a half-back. He has also come up with 14 assists, 24 offloads as well as 18 clean breaks.
Robert Lui (Salford Red Devils)
The Salford Red Devils star is one of the most exciting players to watch in the world when he is on form. He is a great all-round half-back who has a bit of everything in his locker.
Lui carries the ball powerfully, busting 77 tackles while making 23 clean breaks in Super League this season. The 27-year-old has also crossed the whitewash six times in 2017.
