Whitehaven sign Wales international Reece

Whitehaven have signed utility-man Lewis Reece from West Wales Raiders on a one-year contract.

The 26-year-old made his debut for Wales back in 2010 and has since made eight appearances for his country.

Reece started his career at the Raiders before joining Gloucestershire All Golds for four years. He re-signed for West Wales ahead of last season but has decided to join League 1 outfit Whitehaven for the 2018 campaign.

He can play at centre, wing or in the back-row so he will provide a lot of options for Haven. He is also a good goal-kicker as well.

And the Cardiff-born star is looking forward to getting stuck in at the Recreation Ground next year.

He said: “I’m very happy that a Rugby League club like Whitehaven had contacted me and offered me a contract.

“From playing Whitehaven over the years, they were always, in my opinion, the toughest side to face.

“I would like to thank the head coach Carl Forster and my agent Ian Gormley for making the move happen.

“I am looking forward to meeting new people and making a name for myself at the club and I’m also looking forward to playing in front of the Haven fans.”

And Whitehaven boss Carl Forster is pleased have a player with such versatility in his squad next year.

He said: “I’m happy to get him. He was the stand-out player in South Wales and Gloucestershire teams we played.

“He’s a big lad and a strong runner and being able to play in the back-row and at centre will add good depth into the squad and looking forward to seeing how he goes.”
