Potts ready for a challenging Championship campaign
Dewsbury Rams winger Gareth Potts says the team are ready for a rough ride in the Championship this season.
The Rams had a rocky start to the 2017 season but enjoyed a fine couple of months towards the back end of the season under coach Neil Kelly.
And with Toronto Wolfpack and Leigh Centurions also in the Championship next year, Potts admitted that it will be tough but they are ready for the challenge.
He told dewsburyrams.co.uk: “It’s always getting tougher, and there are some massive away trips coming our way, going to the likes of Toulouse, and then to Cumbria, and that isn’t even mentioning the trip to Toronto.
“We want to try and pick as many points up as we can at these places, but we know it won’t be easy.
“You also have got the full-time teams coming back into it, while the likes of Leigh and Featherstone will be up there, as they always are; the league is just getting harder every year.
“It all comes back to the start, though. If we can get off to a good start then we should be looking at least a top six finish, if not higher.”
Potts wants to get a good run of games under his belt in 2018.
He added: “Last year was a bit hit and miss for me, with injuries and then not being selected, so I couldn’t really get going.
“However, I did play a lot better when I got a run of games under my belt and that is my main focus for this year – to cement a place in the team and keep that shirt.”
