Sam Tomkins in action for Catalans Dragons in 2024

Sam Tomkins will continue his playing career in 2025 after signing a one-year contract extension with Catalans Dragons.

The two-time Man of Steel winner came out of retirement back in July, making six appearances for the Dragons in the second half of the season as Steve McNamara’s side just missed out on a place in the play-offs.

But Tomkins says his knee is feeling good: and that he feels more than capable of going around again in 2025 as the Dragons look to bounce back from a disappointing campaign.

“I’m really excited to be playing again with the Dragons in 2025,” Tomkins said.

“Retiring at the end of 2023 gave my body time to heal and after playing the last part of the 2024 season, I feel I’m ready to contribute for a full season now.

“The club have assembled a very strong squad for 2025 and I can’t wait to be a part of what promises to be an exciting year for the club.

“I’d like to thank Bernard (Guasch), Steve (McNamara) and Neil (McIlroy) for giving me the opportunity to continue my playing career at this special club which I have grown to love over the last six years.”

Catalans coach Steve McNamara says he is delighted to have Tomkins onboard for 2025, with the French club having enjoyed a huge recruitment drive, bringing the likes of Luke Keary, Elliott Whitehead, Tevita Pangai Junior, Nick Cotric, Ollie Partington and Tommy Makinson to Perpignan ahead of next season.

“After conversations with Sam I am fully convinced he is mentally and physically ready to be a hugely influential player for us in 2025,” McNamara said.

“He will undertake a vigorous pre-season which I am certain will see him return to his very best form. He is a huge asset to our team with his ability and leadership.”

Tomkins has won three Super League titles, two Challenge Cups, a World Club Challenge title and three League Leaders’ Shields during his career, whilst racking up almost 400 career appearances.
