Wane praises retiring Higham
Wigan coach Shaun Wane led the tributes to the retiring Mickey Higham after the hooker’s final game on Sunday.
Higham, 37, bowed out with a final appearance for Leigh against the Warriors after a stellar career that took in 500 appearances, a Super League Grand Final win and three Challenge Cups.
He played for Leigh, St Helens, Wigan and Warrington before returning to finish his career with his hometown club.
Wane told the official Wigan website: “I’ve worked with Micky, he’s a fantastic fella. We had him in the changing room after the game and presented him with a gift.
“He did a lot for Wigan and he’s done a lot for Rugby League and we’re all Rugby League fans.
“I appreciate what he’s done, he was a bit choked speaking to our players then, I’m glad we did it as he’s a fantastic player and bloke.”
Wigan won the game 22-14, with Sam Tomkins, Oliver Gildart, Gabe Hamlin and Jake Shorrocks scoring the tries.
