Runciman wants Widnes to aim high
Widnes Vikings centre Charly Runciman wants the team to target a top-eight finish in 2018.
The Vikings finished bottom of the Betfred Super League table at the end of the regular season in 2017, with five wins out of a possible 23.
After beating Catalans Dragons 12-10 at the Stade Gilbert Brutus in the Qualifiers, Denis Betts’ Widnes outfit avoided relegation.
And following a positive pre-season, Runciman says Widnes should be aiming higher than just staying in the top-flight.
“You never aim to lose and we always want to finish as high as we can,” Runciman told widnesvikings.co.uk.
“We want to win every week and we want to push for the top. That’s what I play footy for – I don’t play to make the eight or avoid relegation.
“I’d like to be a bit more consistent this year. I want to try my best to be a good team-mate and hopefully get over the line a few more times as well.
“We’ve had a really good pre-season and everyone’s buzzing so it’ll be nice if we could be the dark horses this year.”
