The good

Tara Jones made history on Sunday afternoon, making her Super League debut as an in-goal match official during Wigan’s win over Wakefield.

St Helens and London Broncos sit top of the tree in Super League and the Championship respectively, both winning five from five to start the season.

The bad

Leigh’s season shows no signs of picking up as they were comprehensively beaten 38-18 by Halifax in our live featured match.

It was a bad weekend for Denis Betts, who lost his job as England assistant coach on Friday and then watched his team Widnes put in a dour display to lose at home to Huddersfield.

The ugly

West Wales, three weeks after the last minute postponement of their opener against Newcastle due to medical supply issues, fielded just 14 players against Workington today, going down 74-6.

And what about Sky Sports’ commentary of the Catalans game at home to Hull KR on Saturday evening? Sounded like Bill Arthur was using a DB radio.

Result of the week

A tough one this week, with nothing really in the way of upsets. We’re going to go with Rochdale Hornets though, who came back from a 12-0 half-time deficit to beat Barrow 24-12 to get their first win of the season.

It’s been a difficult start to the year for the Hornets who had their first couple of games called off, having had to let go of a couple of players due to financial restrictions. A win against a team fancied to be with them in the relegation battle is just what the doctor ordered for coach Alan Kilshaw after three heavy defeats.
