Chris Chester wants Wakefield to improve their discipline

Wakefield coach Chris Chester has called for his side to improve their discipline following their defeat at Wigan.

Trinity were 12-10 to the good at the break thanks to two tries from Ben Jones-Bishop while Joe Burgess and Taulima Tautai scored for Wigan.

The Warriors came out firing in the second half though, with Burgess scoring another two tries as well as Tom Davies scoring one to round off a 30-18 victory. Wakefield’s second half effort came from Tinirau Arona.

And Chester wants Wakefield to work on their discipline ahead of Saturday’s clash with Widnes Vikings.

He said: “We need to improve our discipline and ball control in the start of the second half.

“It’s happened to us a couple of times to us this season already, we’ve got out of the blocks slow and gave teams good field position.

“I thought we looked a little flimsy on both edges against Wigan to be honest but I thought we were good. We were just beaten by a second half.

“The boys are disappointed but it just shows how far we have come as a playing group that we are disappointed we have gone to Wigan and not got the result. Our effort was brilliant from one to 17 and had it not been for the second half then things might have been different.”

But Chester is pleased with Trinity’s start to the season, with them having won four from their first five games.

He added: “It’s been a good start and it’s what we knew we were capable of.

“We wanted to go five from five but we have started the season pretty strong. We need to make sure this (loss at Wigan) is just a blip.

“I’ve been happy. We’ve not quite hit our straps yet but I think we’re a real threat all across the park and once we do hit them straps, we will be a very hard team to beat.”
