Danny Addy takes on Scotland coaching role

Scotland international Danny Addy is take over the leadership of the country’s Under 19 programme for the rest of 2018.

Addy, 27, is currently sidelined with a serious knee injury suffered in pre-season playing for his club, Hull KR.

He will take over preparations for this summer’s Under 19 European Championships as well as preparing the team for games in September against Cumbria and England Lions.

Addy said: “I am incredibly proud to represent and support Scotland. I have been on at the Chairman, Keith Hogg, for some time to find a way for me to get involved in coaching.

“Obviously, I didn’t want to get seriously injured but it has given me the chance to take up this great opportunity. I am very grateful to my club, Hull KR, for releasing me to do this.

“To get the chance to develop my rugby league coaching experience within the Scotland Rugby League set up and help some of Scotlands younger players develop is very exciting.”

Addy has represented Scotland at two World Cups, in the Four Nations and in two European Championships, earning 16 caps.

He succeeds Anthony Atherton, who has moved on to Wigan.

Scotland RL chairman, Keith Hogg, said: “Danny is one of a large group of players whose commitment to the Bravehearts is outstanding and who want to put something back into the development of the sport in Scotland.

“We did not want to see him get injured but with great support from Hull KR, we are really pleased to have him leading our Under 19 programme for the rest of 2018.”
